Call for Volunteers

Literacy New Jersey, Mercer County Program, a non-profit organization that provides free tutoring services for adults, is seeking volunteers.

Volunteers will be trained in speaking, reading, and writing instruction before being matched with an adult learner who needs help with basic literacy skills. Volunteers will provide tutoring at local public sites such as libraries, churches and retirement homes.

All volunteers must complete four training sessions. The next training session will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the LNJ Mercer County office, 1 North Johnston Avenue in Hamilton. To register or for more information call 609-587-6027 or email

Call for Donations

There is still time to participate in the Mercer County Clerk’s Holiday Drive 2019.

The clerk’s office is collecting new children’s clothing and unwrapped toys for the Children’s Home Society and pet food, blankets, and other pet necessities for local animal shelters.

Donations will be accepted through Tuesday, December 17. All donations can be dropped off at the clerk’s office, located at 209 South Broad Street in Trenton. Call 609-989-6465.

Call for Leaders

The Susan N. Wilson NEW Leadership New Jersey Summer Institute is now accepting applications for summer 2020.

The Summer Institute is a six-day public leadership training program for women held at the Center for American Women and Politics, part of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Students will meet with women leaders and participate in panel discussions and workshops designed to help them develop their leadership skills.

The residential program, open to undergraduate students, will take place June 11-16, 2020, at Rutgers. Applicants must secure assistance from a faculty or staff member in obtaining funding from their schools. All applications are due by February 2, 2020. Applications are available at

Call for Nominees

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve is seeking nominations for its 2020 Land Ethics Award.

The award is presented each year to an individual, non-profit organization, business professional, government agency, or community group for their use of native plants, sustainable design and ethical land management and construction practices.

The award recipient will be chosen by a panel made up of design, preservation and conservation professionals. Applications are due by Friday, January 24, 2020, and the award will be presented March 12 at the Land Ethics Symposium. Email, call 215-862-2924, or visit

Call for Plays

The Lawrence Library is seeking original plays for its annual PlayFest.

Amateur and professional playwrights high school age and older are invited to submit a one-act play up to 10 minutes long with a maximum of five actors to the event. PlayFest will take place Saturday, April 25, with local directors staging script-in-hand performances.

Plays must be submitted by January 10, 2020. Plays can be submitted as a word document attachment to or dropped off at the Lawrence Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike in Lawrenceville. Plays should have two title pages, one with the title only and one with the title and the name, address, phone number and email address of the playwright. Call 609-883-8292.


ActorsNET of Bucks County holds auditions for “Mrs. Warren’s Profession” on Saturday, December 14, at 11 a.m., and Wednesday, December 18, at 7:30 p.m. Open roles are for two men, ages 40+, one man, age 20 to 25, and one woman, age 20 to 25.
