Auditions are fast approaching for the Villagers Theatre spring production of Mark Haddon’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.”

Parts are available for both men and women. Those interested in auditioning must come prepared to share a contemporary monologue no more than one minute long. Callbacks will be by invitation.

Auditions will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, and 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, February 10, at the theater, located at 475 DeMott Lane in Somerset. Performances are scheduled for March 27 through April 5. For more information visit

Kelsey Theatre holds auditions for “13: The Musical” on Saturday and Sunday, February 8 and 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the theater on the campus of Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor. All roles are for ages 13 to 18 and all ethnicities are welcome to audition.

Call for Designs

Attitudes in Reverse, a West Windsor-based organization that offers mental health awareness and suicide prevention programs, invites youths to submit an original piece of artwork to its annual T-Shirt Design Concept Contest.

Entries must adhere to AIR’s message about mental health and the AIR theme, “Mental Illness is Like Air,” and include the words AIR Attitudes in Reverse in the design. The winning design will be featured on AIR’s t-shirts.

All entries must be submitted on an 8.5” x 11” piece of paper. Entries are due Thursday, March 26. The first place winner will receive an iPad, the second place winner a $50 gift card. For more information, email

Census Help Wanted

Census time is nearing and brings with it both volunteer and paid opportunities to help with the counting.

On Thursday, January 30, the Mercer County Connection will conduct a workshop on the 2020 Census that will include information on why it’s essential that everyone is counted and jobs available to help with the counting. The workshop will take place at 10:30 a.m. at their office in the Hamilton Square Shopping Center, 957 Route 33 in Hamilton. For more information or to register call 609-890-9800.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month and Mercer County Community College will celebrate with events based on this year’s theme, “Destination v. Reality.”

The events will begin Saturday, February 1, with a Fashion Show Scholarship Event at the James Kerney Campus in Trenton, followed Wednesday, February 5, by opening ceremonies at Kerney Hall.

Other events include a Celebration of Song and Dance Saturday, February 22, at Kelsey Theatre on the West Windsor Campus; a Black Love Panel Discussion Wednesday, February 26, at Kerney Hall; and a closing ceremony, taking place Thursday, February 27 at the West Windsor campus.

Call for Volunteers

The Sourland Conservancy is seeking volunteers for the American Woodcock Restoration project.

Volunteers will receive information on the project and how it has evolved before hiking into the park to move discarded Christmas trees to create natural deer exclosures, which is necessary to keep the deer from eating native plants

Registration is underway for the Lightning Lacrosse 2020 season.

Students in grades pre-K through 8 from West Windsor, Plainsboro, and Cranbury can now sign up for the upcoming season, which gets underway in March.
