The Lawrence Library is hosting PlayFest, its annual one-act play festival, on Saturday, April 29. The festival directors are seeking actors to fill a variety of roles in the staged readings from the selected works of local playwrights. Essay Contest

The QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning is inviting New Jersey students in grades 2 through 12 to take part in an “American Patriot Essay Contest” by writing a short essay on the topic “What the American Flag Means to Me.” The grand prize winner will receive a visit to his or her school by a hot air balloon and a special VIP package at this year’s balloon festival in July. The essays must be 100 words or less. Entries should be mailed to Essay Judges, QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, 363 Route 46 West, Suite 200, Fairfield, NJ 07004, or emailed to pncessay@balloonfestival.com. Entries should include the student’s name, home or school address, home or school telephone number, grade, age, school name, and the name of their teacher. The deadline is Monday, May 1.


The Robbinsville Hamilton Rotary Club Foundation has several scholarship opportunities for graduating 2017 high school seniors who reside in Robbinsville and Hamilton. The New Jersey State League of Municipalities and West Windsor are offering a scholarship competition open to all high school juniors and seniors from the township. Play Tennis

The Nassau Tennis Club is hosting stroke development clinics to work on volleys and overheads. The program has three sessions: Mondays starting March 6 from 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays starting February 21 at 12:30 p.m., and Thursdays, starting February 23 at 9 a.m. $225. Call for Art

The Museum Shop at Grounds For Sculpture is seeking locally hand-produced wares on a consignment basis for the upcoming season. They are seeking home decor, jewelry, things of gardening/botanical interest, and personal accessories. Submit work by email to shop@groundsforsculpture.org. Howell Living History Farm is hosting two programs for families during the winter and spring seasons. The programs are designed to introduce children to farm animals and farming activities, while parents volunteer time helping the staff with tours and projects. The Farmhands Program is an ongoing Saturday-only program for children ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. Children participating in Farmhands will have opportunities to help care for animals, help farmers in the barns and field, and join in farm craft programs and games. The Hatchery Program is for children ages 3 to 5 years and features activities such as feeding farm animals, collecting eggs, storytelling and taking a hayride. Parents may enroll by attending a registration meeting on Thursday, February 16, or Wednesday, February 22, at 1 p.m. The farm is located at 70 Woodens Lane, Hopewell.

T-Shirt Contest

Attitudes In Reverse is hosting a t-shirt design concept contest for students. Entries are due Friday, March 3, and should focus on the importance of seeking help for mental health disorders. Entry forms are available online at www.attitudesinreverse.org.

Take a Class

Monroe Township’s evening community education classes will begin Tuesday, March 14, and run through Thursday, May 25. Registration is open for more than 40 course offerings including many new opportunities such as still life drawing with pastels, healthy living interactive workshop, line dancing, dance and exercise, and more.
