Certara, a Carnegie Center-based company that provides support services for clinical trials, has added a major Japanese pharmaceutical company to its roster of users of its simulation technology.

Mitsubishi Tanabe has joined Certara’s Simcyp Consortium. Simcyp is a computerized simulation of patient populations. Using it helps drug companies evaluate the potential effectiveness of treatments in cases where a clinical trial is not possible. The FDA, the European Medicines Agency, and the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency are also affiliated with the Simcyp Consortium.

Mitsubishi Tanabe is Japan’s 10th-largest drugmaker.

Certara also appointed Nathan Teuscher to be vice president of pharmacometric solutions. Teuscher is the founder and former president of clinical pharmacology consultancy PK/PD Associates, which Certara acquired in August, 2015.

“Dr. Teuscher is both a renowned modeler and an accomplished educator in the field of pharmacometrics,” said Certara CEO Edmundo Muniz.
