Children’s Specialized Hospital is now offering a new service, special needs primary care, adding to its services for children with complex medical needs such as autism.

“Ultimately, the goal of our practice is to provide much needed, comprehensive care to children with medical complexity and their families” said Matthew B. McDonald III, MD, chief of special needs pediatrics at Children’s Specialized Hospital. “We offer everything you would find in a typical pediatrician’s office including sick and well visits but also the specialized coordination of services required to help children with complex medical needs.”

The team includes doctors, care coordinators, social workers, therapists, nurses and staff members who are prepared to care for children who need extra resources.

The center provides services for children with technology dependence such as a ventilator, monitors etc.; Down syndrome; prematurity; muscle diseases; cerebral palsy; autism; metabolic disease; poorly controlled chronic disease; genetic disorders; spina bifida; and rare or undiagnosed conditions.
