NRG Yield, a spinoff company of NRG, has named Christopher Sotos as CEO. Sotos has been on the board of NRG Yield since it split from its parent company in 2013. The “yieldco” was the first of its kind and served as a model for other power conglomerates to split off completed, productive power plants into yieldcos while keeping new plant construction in the main company.

“With Chris’ extensive expertise in the financial and energy markets, there is no better candidate to lead NRG Yield,’ said Mauricio Gutierrez, NRG Yield’s interim president and CEO. “The board of directors is confident in Chris’ ability to seamlessly transition into this role and strategically evaluate opportunities across the landscape. We look forward to his immediate contribution to the company.”

Sotos joined NRG Energy in 2004 as a senior analyst and was later head of strategy and mergers & acquisitions there.
