Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), 72.5 Escher Street, Box 872, Trenton 08605-08; 609-695-5456; fax, 609-695-1225. Dennis Micai, executive director. www.trentonsoupkitchen.org.
After nine years as the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen’s executive director, Dennis Micai will retire in August, 2016.
Before heading TASK, Micai worked for the Mercer County Board of Social Services for 34 years. He also served for two years as executive director of the Arc Mercer.
At TASK, Micai oversaw a dramatic expansion of the soup kitchen’s effort to feed the hungry in Mercer County’s outer-ring communities (TASK will serve more than 250,000 meals this year). He also launched a number of new partnerships and programs including the Send Hunger Packing campaign in cooperation with Mercer Street Food Bank.
Jim Parker, president of the TASK board of trustees, said Micai is “highly respected by all for his deep concern for those who are truly needy, for his broad knowledge of government and the nonprofit sector and understanding and concern for the human consequences of poverty.”
The TASK board of trustees hopes to have an executive director on board by June, 2016.
