#b#Strong Commercial Real Estate Outlook#/b#
According to an analysis by Chicago-based real estate firm DTZ, Central New Jersey absorbed about 31,000 square feet of office space in the first quarter. The same report noted that a strengthening labor market may have helped the growth in the office market. New Jersey’s unemployment rate has fallen to 6.5 percent, though it is still 1 percent higher than the nationwide unemployment rate.
The Princeton market picked up about 14,000 square feet of space and also showed the only new construction in central New Jersey, with 121,500 square feet being built. The report credited the Woodbridge/Edison submarket with leading the way in absorption. There was also an increase in rents from $20.67 per square foot last quarter to $21.14 this quarter, with the Princeton area going for $26.78.
DTZ merged with Washington-based Cassidy-Turley at the beginning of the year. Its New Jersey office is located in Edison.
