Advaxis, a biotech company developing “immunotherapy” cancer drugs, has made a public stock offering at $3 a share, expecting to raise about $12 million. The company said in a press release that it plans to use the funds to continue its research and expand its product line.
The company is currently testing drugs that are meant to treat cervical cancer. (See U.S. 1, September 11, 2013.)

NRG Energy Inc. has bought one residential solar panel company, Roof Diagnostics Solar (RDS).
“With the price of residential solar increasingly competitive with the retail price of power in multiple states, the time is now for NRG to ramp up its efforts to bring the benefit of self generation to NRG’s millions of present and future retail electricity customers,” said David Crane, president and CEO of NRG Energy.
Wall-based RDS, a 475-employee company, is one of the largest solar sales and installation companies in the country. It will change its name to NRG Residential Solar Solutions.
A press release said terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.

Horizon NJ Health, a subsidiary of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, has leased a 23,145-square-foot office building in Airport Corporate Park. The company is currently located at 210 Silva Street in West Trenton.
Mercer Oak Realty, which arranged the deal, said the 168,500-square-foot office complex at 370 Scotch Road is now 70 percent occupied.

Spectra MD, an electronic health records company, has changed its name to SpectraMedix. “The SpectraMedix name better reflects our focus on healthcare quality improvement through clinical data analytics,” said company spokesman Nathan Brown.

ConvaTec, a medical device maker, has closed its office at 200 HQ Park Drive and laid off 118 employees in the process. The company’s two-building Skillman campus is now closed. About 100 employees remain and will operate from a smaller office in Bridgewater, or else will work from home. A Convatec spokesman said the move was made in order to consolidate operations.
ConvaTec, which is headquartered in Luxembourg, has 8,000 employees in 90 countries. It is owned by private equity firms Nordic Capital and Avista Capital Partners. Before 2008, it was a subsidiary of Bristol-Myers Squibb.
