Mikonos, located on Scotch Road in Ewing, is the place to go in the area for authentic Greek food. Owner Gus Scordas opened the 80-seat restaurant in March, 2011. Kostas, its head chef, is from Athens, Greece. He has been with Mikonos for more than two years and receives many calls out to the dining room to compliment his expertise in Greek cuisine.

Walking in the restaurant is like taking a quick trip to Greece. The sunroom addition is decorated in soothing blues with blue lights above the tables. It gives it a Mediterranean feel.

The menu is full of fresh, authentic Greek food created in the traditional Greek way. According to Mikonos manager George Piegaro, “our chef makes everything we have, except the filo dough.” His specialties include yiouvetsi sti gastra, moussaka, and spanakopita. The restaurant also serves gyros and salads. “We have a Mediterranean Greek seafood salad with fresh seafood. All of our salads include fresh food,” adds Piegaro.

Mikonos is a fine dining experience, not a diner. Popular items include the beef and lamb gyro platter, beef and lamb gyro sandwich, baklava, Greek salad, and hummus. The restaurant is famous for its baked lemon potatoes.

For the more daring diners, Mikonos recommends the octopus, which is grilled to perfection and drizzled with olive oil. More traditional diners will enjoy the cool tzatziki, which is studded with thin shards of cucumbers, and the chunky roasted eggplant salad with red peppers and garlic. Everyone loves Mikonos’ spicy feta because it is made in-house from a family recipe.
