Dr. Donna Vagnozzi-Bucci
Do you dread a visit to the dentist? Does the thought of a dental drill bring chills to your spine? Have you put off taking care of your teeth and gums because you just don’t want to deal with the hassle and pain of a dental visit?
What if a trip to see your dentist could be pleasant? What if it could be more like a relaxing visit to a spa, complete with soft music, massage pillows, and a gentle, soothing atmosphere. “Many people put off necessary dental visits because they find them unpleasant. I want my patients to be relaxed and comfortable, while they are getting the necessary treatment to keep their mouths healthy,” says Dr. Donna, whose spa dental practice is located at Tree Farm Village in Pennington.
Dr. Donna and her associates, Dr. Simon Silk and Dr. Poorva Parnaik, have many years of experience in helping their patients to keep their teeth healthy and their smiles attractive. They provide all phases of general and cosmetic dentistry, including bonding, porcelain veneers, crown and bridge and implants. They also have experience treating patients with Invisalign (wireless tooth straightening) and Zoom whitening, a one-hour whitening process. Dr. Larisa Strelkov, an endodontic specialist, is available in the office for root canal treatment and Dr. David Heering, a periodontal specialist, is also available in the office for periodontal treatment, implants and wisdom teeth extraction. Says Dr. Donna: “It is important to us that we can offer convenience as well as comfort to our patients.”
Dental treatment doesn’t just include the teeth, says. Dr. Donna, insuring that the gums stay healthy is also an important part of dental care. Healthy gums play an important role in our overall health, she says. Untreated gum disease can cause infection-causing bacteria to spread to the bloodstream. Gum disease has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke, and can lead to a variety of other health issues, not to mention early loss of teeth.
Another important part of each patient’s comprehensive exam is the VELscope, a state of the art oral cancer screening system used to detect early signs of cancer in the oral cavity. Dr. Donna’s office was one of the first in Mercer County to use this system.
The typical age for a person to develop oral cancer has been changing. Statistics show that 25 percent of newly diagnosed cases occur in patients under the age of 40. It is extremely important to detect oral cancer early, says Dr. Donna, because over half of the patients diagnosed with the disease die within five years.
Knowing that dental health is important is often not enough to prevent people from avoiding a visit to the dentist’s office. That’s why Dr. Donna has worked hard to create a relaxed, spa-like atmosphere at her office. “From the moment you step into our office we try to make your visit enjoyable,” says Dr. Donna. Instead of the sterile atmosphere of many medical offices, the waiting room is comfortably furnished with a fireplace and a beverage bar, serving bottled water, fresh fruit, and coffee. Soothing music and a waterfall complete the ambiance.
During your dental exam Dr. Donna’s staff will help you relax with warm neck wraps, back massage pillows, aroma therapy and even a paraffin hand wrap. It is all about making a trip to the dentist a pleasant experience. “If my patients are at ease and happy during a visit they are more likely to return to get the checkups and treatment they need to ensure that their mouth and gums stay healthy,” says Dr. Donna.
