Have you ever wrung your hands in despair while wrestling with your annual income tax return. Low income families and individuals have the same challenges — and sometimes more — when they face their 1040 form.

The Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness is seeking volunteers for its campaign called Mercer C.A.S.H (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) program to offer free tax preparation assistance for low-income families and individuals who make less than $50,000 a year in Mercer County.

Last year the program served 1,423 individuals with total refunds of $2,088,131.

An open house for volunteers will be held Wednesday, September 25, at the offices of the United Way at the Crossroad Corporate Center, 3150 Brunswick Pike, Suite 230, in Lawrenceville. Informal presentations will be made from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and again from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and other tax volunteers will be present to answer questions.

Register by E-mail: mewilliams@merceralliance.org or call 609-844-1008 ext. 4933, no later than Tuesday, September 24.
