The days when a business person could afford to sit back and relax in the summer are over. With the warm weather, it’s easier to get out and around, so summer networking events are just the thing to help keep your business going over the lazy August days.
Summer functions often have fewer people, which is a good thing. Fewer attendees make it easier to stand out, get noticed, and get to know the people who do show up.
To help with networking in the summer months, here’s a round-up of events that are happening throughout the area.
#b#Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce#/b#. Along with the regular monthly meetings that continue throughout the summer, the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce has two fun events heading into the fall. On Thursday, August 11, at 5 p.m. there is “Connections on the Corridor,” a networking event with a tropical twist that will take place at Marsilio’s Kitchen at the Hilton Gardens Patio in Hamilton. Cost: $35.
In September there is the Greater Bordentown Area chapter’s annual beer tasting event on Tuesday, September 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the HOB Tavern in downtown Bordentown. Tasting includes a trilogy of imported beers. For those who prefer wine, that too will be available. Light fare also will be provided.
This year’s event is a fundraiser to help support the Downtown Bordentown Association with related expenses for the town’s tree lighting. Cost: $40. Visit www.MercerChamber.org.
#b#Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce#/b#. The always-busy Princeton Chamber will host a quartet of special events in August, starting on Friday, August 12 at noon with the LEEEP Peer-to-Peer Learning Lunch with Fred Gomez of Wells Fargo Advisors. Gomez, will discuss “Education Planning with 529 College Savings Plans”.
Princeton LEEEP is the Chamber’s young and emerging professionals program. Cost: $15.
There are two events on Wednesday, August 17. The first is the chamber’s August Business Before Business Breakfast with Princeton University basketball head coach Mitch Henderson. Henderson will present “Slam Dunking to Success: Accountability and Leadership in Sports and Business” at 7:30 a.m. at the Nassau Club. Cost: $40.
At 6 p.m. the chamber’s LEEEP program will host “Brewing With Your Connections,” a networking event that includes a tour of host Triumph Brewery at 7:15. Cost: $25.
The chamber rounds August out with its membership orientation on Wednesday, August 24, at 8 a.m. at the Residence Inn by Marriott. Members who want to learn more about how to maximize their memberships will have a chance to meet colleagues and key chamber personnel. The event is free but is only open to existing chamber members.
Visit www.princetonchamber.org for information on any of the above events.
#b#Referral organizations#/b#. If you are always saying you are interested in joining a referral organization but haven’t done so yet, the summer may the perfect time to check out some of the different options available in the area. The two largest are BNI and LeTip, which have several chapters throughout the area. Almost all of the groups meet at 7 a.m. weekly, on various days and locations. To find a chapter check their websites at www.letip.com or www.bni.com.
There are also several independent referral groups throughout the area. Networking and More, which meets at 7:15 a.m. each Thursday in the MarketFair area, is just one example. The group was organized about 18 months ago, according to its vice president, Kathy Kowrach, and now has 34 members. More information on the group can be obtained by calling Kowrach at 609-631-4397.
