Summer camp is one of the best ways to give children an exciting summer, but it can be a difficult juggling act for mom and dad when camp starts late and ends early. Hopewell Valley YMCA is unique in helping working parents. The day begins at 7 a.m. and lasts until 6:30 p.m., giving parents time to drop kids off without being rushed or having to leave work early. Parents can register for one of three day length options at different price points to fit their particular schedules.
“We offer the full camp experience and more,” says Jessica Brown, director of marketing and community development for the Hopewell Valley YMCA. “Unlike many camps, we offer swim lessons daily so that children can become competent at all levels in water safety. We also have weekly field trips to such exciting destinations as the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, the Trenton Thunder or Sahara Sam’s Water Park.”
Brown adds, “Our camp schedule also runs longer than others with the week of August 27 to 31 being a special week of field trips every day.”
Camp Groups cover ages K-7 and the camp is designed to fit the needs of all campers.
“Our sports camps are supported by the Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Tom Jackson Fund in honor of Thomas R. Jackson, a long-time Pennington resident and dedicated sports enthusiast. The community comes together each year in his honor at our annual Tom Jackson Champion Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the event support Hopewell Valley YMCA’s youth sport programs so every child can participate and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun, and shared interests,” says Brown. “As a charitable organization, Hopewell Valley YMCA is able to provide financial assistance to our community thanks to generous contributions from our donors. No family is turned away due to economic circumstances.”
In addition to traditional camp activities, Safety Town is a community project designed to provide hands-on safety education for children. A realistic, child-sized town with miniature streets, buildings, crosswalks, and working traffic lights, Safety Town offers an authentic setting for bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicular safety instruction. This one-week summer program to be held June 25 to June 29 features visits by police, firefighters, paramedics, and other local first responders.
