Whether the need is preschool or before and after school care, the Hamilton Area YMCA has something for every family. The organization has been serving local kids with these programs for more than 20 years.
Inclusive full- and half-day programs keep 3 to 5-year-olds busy with fun and learning from September through June thanks to a robust early childhood program. Creative Beginnings Full-Day Child Learning and Development Center takes place at the Hamilton Area YMCA JKR Branch on Whitehorse Mercerville Road. The Stepping Stones Partial-Day program is located at the Joseph Cappello School on Old Trenton Road.
“There are many benefits to our program, including kindergarten readiness,” noted Senior Director of Child Learning & Development Beverly Gessner. “Our programs include a curriculum based music program as well as a preschool fitness and nutrition program. Large outdoor playgrounds and enrichment programs such as preschool science and books alive make it fun for our young members.”
School-age children benefit from the Hamilton Area YMCA’s diverse activities during before and after-school care available in 13 of the 17 elementary schools in Hamilton Township. More than 100 staff members, including site supervisors, assistant site supervisors, site assistants, and greeters, stand ready each day during the school year to provide a fun environment early in the morning and after school is done.
Gessner adds she is always happy to meet with families, and enjoys meeting with those new to the area to explain the Hamilton Area YMCA’s services. Part of the mission is to provide care for all families within the community. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
“Our preschool and before and after-school care participants must be members, and we offer several membership types to meet a family’s needs,” Gessner said. “At the school-age level, program membership is free as long as your child is enrolled in before or after school care.”
The Early Learners Parent Group is open to all families in the early childhood program. The parent group meets four times a year to bring families together. Guest speakers are invited throughout the year to present topics relative to early childhood development.
“Traditional parent/child classes such as tots in motion or me and my shadow are offered in session-based programming throughout the year,” she noted. “Some offerings start for children as young as six months.”
