Family-owned since 1933, Freddie’s Tavern located on Railroad Avenue in Ewing is a local institution. It is the Cheers of Ewing. Freddie Urbano, grandson of founders Freddie and Jane Urbano, officially took over the family business about a year ago. “I’ve been in the business my whole life.”

Says Freddie: “We’ve been around a long time, and we have been doing well enough to keep us in business. We are located in the back corner of a neighborhood on railroad tracks [not on a busy road]. We can service all of your needs from banquets, to the bar, to a quiet dinner. We have a Cheers atmosphere where everyone knows everyone.”

Freddie’s Tavern has been expertly taking care of generations of special events from bridal showers to weddings to baby showers, family reunions, and picnics. “Our patrons are very nice,” adds Freddie. They offer catering packages with trays of food made to serve in your home or other location. They also cater events for area corporations, including Pfizer and Horizon.

One of their secrets of success is the variety of items they offer daily. A table of four with one person craving surf and turf, another wanting pizza, a third one yearning for a grilled sandwich, and the fourth person aching for an omelet will all find something perfect on the menu, and it will all be delicious.

The restaurant is best known for its great prime ribs, tomato pies, and quarter-pound and half-pound burgers.

Freddie’s Tavern has a 32-seat bar with nine TVs, a 75-seat dining room, and can seat 100 people in its banquet hall. “We offer great food, a great bar experience, and great people,” continues Freddie. The restaurant also has great staff with very low turnover. Many of the servers and staff members have been with Freddie’s for more than a decade; four of them have been with Freddie’s for more than 30 years. That is very uncommon in the restaurant business. It truly is a family business with Freddie’s father (also named Freddie), two sisters, and a brother-in-law still working in the restaurant.

Freddie’s Tavern is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and accepts all major credit cards. Reservations are gladly accepted.

“We can provide all of the services in one place.” Visit Freddie’s Tavern and become a part of its family.
