The end of the year is rapidly approaching, and the holidays will be here before you know it. Have you been thinking about changing your kitchen cabinetry and counter tops? Are you ready to tackle that master bath renovation or spruce up your powder room? Is the laundry room ready to be transformed by adding a new washer and dryer, with added storage?
Whether your plans are large or small, a thoughtful review of the current trends in kitchen and bath design is a useful place to begin. First, take inventory of your current space. What are you thinking about changing? Are you simply updating your cabinets or counters in their existing location, or are you planning a full renovation including a change in your floor plan, possibly adding new flooring, tile, and paint?
Take “before” photos of your existing space and gather a digital scrapbook of design ideas you like and don’t like for your new dream space from sites like Houzz, Pinterest, or many of the other DIY design websites available.
Once you have a general outline of the scope of your project, contact your design professional, who will come out to your home to discuss your project and provide a general estimate of what your project will cost. This estimate, along with prices for your appliances, fixtures, and tile make up your total proposed budget. The proposed budget becomes finalized once actual cabinet choices, counter top materials, and other project items are selected.
Time considerations are also important. In addition to design time, many projects require township building permits — which, depending on the township, can take several weeks before a project can start. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time before the desired completion time of the project to allow for these items. It’s better to start early to make time for appliance, cabinetry, countertop, tile, and accessory decisions.
Once your project starts, at Cranbury Design Center we use a project management approach to get your job done on time. Every project we take on is managed by a project manager. We create an initial project schedule and plan, assist clients with shopping trips to make project selections, monitor deliveries, and handle all trade professionals involved with the project. Regular communication and updates with clients ensure your project stays on schedule and within budget. This is an integral component of the process.
