Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s Realty has announced that it will be contributing relief efforts for communities that were victimized by Hurricane Sandy.
“Hurricane Sandy, in some way, affected each and every one of us. From mere inconveniences to tragedies, many people are still reeling in the aftermath of the storm and require assistance, whether it’s with a helping hand or financial support,” said Judson Henderson, managing member.
Callaway Henderson is helping in a number of ways, including suggesting vendors for damaged property and compiling a list of residences whose owners can offer displaced families a place to stay.
The company is also offering financial assistance. From November 14 through January 31 it will donate $100 for each sale that Callaway Henderson closes to charities including the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, the Diocese of Trenton, the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, HomeFront, Restore Our Shore, and the United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund.
Janssen Pharmaceuticals has awarded the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank a grant of $20,000 to fund programs and activities to provide healthy foods for low-income people.
“We are grateful to Janssen Pharmaceuticals for recognizing the link between poverty, hunger, and poor nutrition and helping us in our work to improve the well-being of poorly nourished children and adults,” says food bank director Phyllis Stoolmacher.
Each week, the food bank channels 50,000 to 60,000 pounds of food and groceries to food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and meal sites. The food, secured from government sources, food companies, farms, food drives, and private donations, helps to feed 25,000 Mercer County residents.
