Capital Health announced Monday that pharma giant Bristol-Myers Squibb will give a multi-million dollar gift to support the Capital Health Regional Medical Center Trauma Center in Trenton. The amount of the gift will be announced on Wednesday, April 28.
Capital Health’s is building new hospital in Hopewell, a project expected to carry a $550 million price tag when it opens in 2011.

Axletree Solutions, an information technology firm that operates exclusively with the international SWIFT network, has opened an office in North Brunswick.
SWIFTNet is network used by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, a Belgium-based cooperative through which the financial world conducts business.
The network serves 8,300 banking organizations, securities institutions, and corporations in more than 200 countries that allows customers to automate and standardize financial transactions. Axletree’s Service Bureau provides connectivity to the network to financial institutions and corporations.

Hygeia Consulting, a management consulting firm specializing in the pharma and health industries, has opened in Pennington.
The company, founded in 2002 as Axia Management, operated at 100 Nassau Street and 65 Main Street in Pennington. President Juliene Stafford, a former senior director in the pharmaceutical development division at Bristol-Myers Squibb who earned her Ph.D. from USC in 1983, renamed the company Hygeia after the Greek goddess of illness prevention and good health.
Stafford says that the healthcare industry is moving rapidly towards community-based models that are more customer-centric and require a flexible understanding of how each element fits together —or doesn’t, and that Hygeia is looking to bridge these areas.

It was founded in 1997 by Gururajan Rao, who holds several degrees from Rutgers and NJIT. His first was a bachelor’s in engineering from Annamalai University in India, followed by masters’ degrees in biomedical engineering and computer science from NJIT in the late 1980s.
Rao received an MBA and a Ph.D. from Rutgers in 2000.

Aton, a specialty pharmaceutical firm that develops medicines targeting rare and orphan metabolic, neurological, cardiovascular and ophthalmic diseases, has added an eighth drug to its arsenal with the acquisition of Parkinson’s drug Lodosyn from Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Terms of the deal were not released. According to Bristol-Myers, Lodosyn is used in conjunction with levodopa, the main drug used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

The vinyl floor manufacturer has settled a longstanding asbestos-related lawsuit with insurer Chartis Companies. Congoleum will pay $40 million over a six-year period to employees who filed a suit claiming health damage caused by working at one of the company’s three plants.
In a written statement, Congoleum’s board chairman Roger Marcus commented, “With this latest settlement, we have now resolved all our insurance litigation and moved one step closer to completing our reorganization.
The suit dates to 2003, when Congoleum filed a prepackaged bankruptcy plan related to asbestos claims.

As cyber security becomes more of an issue for business, law enforcement, and government agencies, Niksun has grown, more than doubling its staff size over the past two years. In 2007 there were about 65 employees at the company’s Cornwall Road headquarters; now there are 150. The increase came largely through hiring, rather than acquisition, though the move to Nassau Park comes on the heels of Niksun’s acquisition of Sandstorm Enterprises. Sandstrom, acquired in January for an undisclosed amount, was a security-oriented products company best known for the security forensics analysis and visibility software NetIntercept.
