Thomas Hofstaetter has been named the new president and CEO of VaxInnate, the Cranbury-based developer of vaccines.
Hofstaetter replaces Alan Shaw, who will serve as the company’s chief scientific officer and board chairman.
Hofstaetter became VaxInnate’s COO after more than 30 years at various research-based pharmaceutical companies. He had been senior vice president of corporate business development at the recently dismantled Wyeth before coming to VaxInnate. The Germany-born Hofstaetter holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology and a master’s in biochemistry from the University of Tuebingen.

On March 1 Sabinsa Corp. moved its headquarters and warehouse to 33,800 square-feet at 20 Lake Drive, the Twin Rivers building that it purchased from Hazlet Enterprises (U.S. 1, February 3). Sabinsa researches and develops natural extracts for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries, and it also operates sites in Utah and India.
A raw material supplier, the firm sells such products as phytonutrients, Ayurvedic herbal extracts. and specialty fine chemicals for the nutritional, pharmaceutical and food industries.
From 1996 to 2004 Sabinsa had leased space at Princeton Corporate Plaza on Deer Park Drive, but it closed that laboratory to consolidate at its headquarters at 121 Ethel Road West in Piscataway. Sabinsa will be using all the available space, says Kavita Subramanian, who is in charge of international business.
She also says that there will be no manufacturing at this site. “All the raw materials are manufactured in India, but we do plan to do research here. What attracted us was the lab space, and we wanted to own our own building.”

The timing of the move coincides with the exodus of Fort Dodge Animal Health from Princeton Corporate Plaza. Fort Dodge left the park a few weeks ago as the result of the $68 billion Pfizer buyout of Wyeth and its subsidiaries. When Acco moved to Deer Park Drive some years ago, it had moved from the former campus of American Cyanamid, which itself lost several employees to Fort Dodge at the time.
There is no connection between the companies.
