Matrix Development Group, a builder and owner of industrial properties in New Jersey, has purchased 4 Applegate Drive in Robbinsville from Allstate Investments for $8.9 million. The building measures nearly 264,000 square feet.

Originally constructed in 1998 by Matrix, the property was previously owned by Prologis, a warehouse and distribution facilities management firm based in San Francisco. Prologis sold it to Allstate in 2010.

Matrix already has leased 79 percent of the building to BudCo, a fulfillment company that signed for 153,200 square feet, and Longchamp, a manufacturer of luxury handbags and luggage that leased 55,345 square feet.

Mindy Lissner and Stacey Weinberg of CB Richard Ellis represented Allstate. In the two lease transactions immediately following the sale, Hilary Budny of Matrix Development Group represented her company, while Jason Goldman with Cushman & Wakefield of New Jersey Inc. represented BudCo and Joel Lubin of Jones Lang LaSalle represented Longchamp.

NRG Energy has made it to the NFL. The Carnegie Center-based energy company announced on July 13 that it will install integrated solar panels at FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins.

As part of the nine-year agreement, NRG will install three different types of solar panels that will generate two megawatts of electricity. NRG will cover 850 parking spaces in one of the stadium’s lots with 8,000 solar panels that will generate power for the stadium and provide covered parking.

The installation also will include translucent solar panels, sculptures showcasing thin-film solar technology, and 10 electric vehicle charging stations from NRG’s eVgo charging network.

The system will be unveiled in September and will provide a portion of the stadium’s electricity needs and all electrical needs on non-game days.

Streamline Air, the only airline operating out of Trenton-Mercer Airport (TMA), announced on July 12 that it may add flight service to Florida. The airline, which began operations at TMA in April, has been flying to and from the Boston area, where Streamline is based.

The airline is considering passenger flights to Orlando in the fall and is considering adding Tampa Bay and Miami/Palm Beach to its list of destinations.

The federal Department of Transportation approved the expansion of services based on its early success in Trenton, the company said. When Streamline began flying twice daily to Boston it was the first time since 2008 that a passenger airline flew out of TMA. Before April the last passenger flight from Trenton was on Big Sky Airlines, which bailed out of Trenton because of the recession.

According to Mark Cestari, managing director of Streamline, the airline flew 299 passengers in April, 388 in May, and 590 in June. The growth, he said, bolstered Streamline’s confidence enough to add Florida to the schedule.

Trenton and Boston are the only two destinations Streamline currently serves. Cestari suggested that Streamline also is considering flights to Washington, D.C., Cleveland, New York, and Raleigh-Durham, N.C.

Financial professional Hans Kraus Hernandez has started a new firm, Vaughn Capital Partners, in Skillman. Hernandez previously had opened the Edward Jones office at 113 Commons Way in 2008.

Hernandez, a 20-year veteran of the financial services industry, earned a bachelor’s in economics and finance from Rutgers in 1990. He has been a professional equity trader in Manhattan and handled offshore investments for Fred Alger Management.

His partner in Vaughn Capital is his wife, Claire. She began her career as an IT consultant and project manager and then opened her own IT firm, Automated Solutions Inc. in 1994. She also has worked as the director of technology at First Interstate Financial Corp and GMI Home Loans. She earned her bachelor’s in economics from Rutgers in 1991.

The company that bought beleaguered Robbinsville solar company EPV Solar last year has formally opened operations at 8 Marlen Drive, the former home of EPV.

New Millennium Solar Equipment Corporation, which designs, develops, manufactures, and installs thin-film solar technology, was founded in the early 1980s. The acquisition stems from a $3.85 million equity financing round that took place last fall, when Phoenix Solar Holdings Corp. (a company founded by EPV) closed on a round of financing that attracted seven investors. EPV had filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February, 2010.

Things looked bright for EPV in 2007 when the company raised $77 million to finance a nearly 400-person staff. But the market for EPV’s thin-film product never came through and the company was quickly saddled with a lot of supply, but little demand. According to the SEC, the company claimed it had more than $10 million in unsecured debt. Almost all the newly hired staff had to be let go.

New Millennium purchased EPV’s intellectual property earlier this year for an undisclosed sum.

The company, part of Seattle Gourmet Foods and based in Washington, had operated two Hopewell locations until 2009, when it consolidated to 53A Railroad Place in Hopewell. The company can be reached at its toll-free number or online.

Doug McCune, 55, on July 16. A noted scientist and co-director of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory’s computational plasma physics group, he developed widely used software geared toward the physics of fusion experiments. He also was a longtime supporter of Anchor House, and died while participating in the organization’s annual fundraising bicycle ride.

Donna Cannie, 56, on July 16. She was the owner and president of Advanced Vending Services in Princeton for 13 years.

Eleftherios “Danny” Fikaris, 66, on July 12. He was the owner of Danny’s Painting and the restaurants Zorba’s and Zorba’s Brother on Nassau Street.
