Universal Display, which develops OLED and white light technologies, has opened a new subsidiary in Japan. Universal Display Corporation Japan KK will be based in Tokyo.
Word of the expansion comes just days after Universal Display announced that it had netted $250 million in a public offering of 5.75 million shares of common stock. According to the company, that money will be used for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition, development and license of properties, assets, or technologies.
Earlier this year Universal Display announced an agreement with Moser Baer Technologies Inc. of Canandaigua, New York, to build the first white OLED lighting pilot manufacturing facility (for high-end graphics) in the United States with the use of a $4,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

According to the agreement, Insmed has acquired all of Transave’s outstanding capital stock and paid off Transave’s $7.8 million debt for approximately 26 million shares of Insmed common stock and another 91.7 million shares of Insmed Series B stock

Elementis, a specialty chemicals company based on Wyckoffs Mill Road in Hightstown, has signed on to be the first tenant at East Windsor’s SciPark, a life science and technology campus located near Exit 8A.
The company signed a long-term lease for 65,552 square feet — the entirety of Building 1 — at the campus, which will be used for the company’s headquarters. Three additional buildings on the 32.3-acre site can accommodate space requirements of 25,000 to 180,000 square feet.

SciPark is being pitched as a cutting-edge science and research park specifically tailored to lure biotech companies to Einstein’s Alley, a nonprofit venture designed to capitalize on the Princeton area’s high-tech cachet.
Elementis will relocate approximately 125 employees from its current site. The $10 million interior build-out of Elementis’ space is expected to begin this month, and the firm expects to take occupancy during the first quarter of 2012.

1-800-PACK-RAT, which provides mobile storage units for moving, has signed a 57,885-square-foot warehouse lease at 8 Nicholas Court in Dayton, and a another for a 144,000-square-foot warehouse complex located less than one mile from there.
The location will serve as the company’s distribution center for its portable storage systems, which now operates on South Middlesex Avenue in Monroe.

Francis Leigh, founder of Leigh Photographic (now Leigh Visual Imaging at 45 Everett Drive), on April 9 at age 92.
A U.S. Navy blimp pilot in World War II, Leigh studied photography from the Navy while stationed in Pensecola, Florida.
He founded his business in Trenton in 1945 and chronicled the city’s glory days, as well as the growth and development of the Princeton region. He specialized in commercial, industrial, and aerial photography and did award-winning work for such clients as Lawrenceville School, AT&T, Lenox China, and Time Magazine. He also did motion picture filmwork for numerous clients.
