Walking into the 3,000-square-foot showroom at Home Hardware Designs is like walking into a jewelry store. Metals shine and sparkle and catch your eye — which is exactly what owner Leland (Jay) Jones envisioned when he established the business in 1999. Located in Glenrock Shopping Center in West Trenton, HHD is known for its vast selection of fine architectural hardware and plumbing. Every inch of space in its showroom is occupied; it’s a menagerie of hardware that is actually … pretty.

“We have over 40,000 cabinet knob options alone,” says Jones, who served 12 years in the navy. The locksmith, trained chef, and fireman inherited his designer instinct from his dad, Nelson Jones, a builder. “I like to say we work hard to put the special into the ordinary.”

Without a doubt, HHD has many special products to choose from. Products on display have arrived from all over the word. One unique item is a bathtub, light enough to lift with one hand, made entirely out of volcanic limestone and resin. It resides at HHD after a journey from England.

Brands of hardware and plumbing on display include: Baldwin Brass, Omnia, Bouvet, Graff, Valli & Valli, Sante, California Faucets, and many more. The distinctive array of more than 500 custom faucets come in 35 different finishes. Yes, 35 different finishes! Some of those faucets are even gold and silver plated. And, if you so choose, you can purchase a cabinet knob garnished with Swarovski crystals.

“We can find anything or make anything that a customer needs,” explains Jones. “Our collective team of engineers, machinists, and artisans has the combined skills to solve hardware quandaries, renovate older cabinets and doors, and design new ones.” The HHD website features a customer requested, made-to-order sink, hand carved out of stone. Not the typical inventory of your average hardware chain!

Jones loves what he does for a living. “What separates us from other stores is that we have a huge selection on display that can be seen and tried. We advise customers to give the look a try. If your kitchen cabinet needs new knobs, bring in the smallest drawer. We can takes samples off our displays, and you can take that drawer home with our product and see what it looks like in your home.”

Now that is service.
