The screening takes less than 10 seconds.
The results can be lifesaving.
Capital Health’s Lung CT Screening Program is now being offered through the Center for Oncology at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell for current or former smokers. Studies show that low-dose CT screening exams (LDCT) can lead to better outcomes for those who are at risk of lung cancer by finding it early, when it is easier to treat.
By using extremely low-dose 128- and 256-slice CT scans, Capital Health’s highly trained radiologists and staff take incredibly detailed images of the lungs. These results are then shared with your primary care doctor for follow up care. There is no contrast involved and no blood test required. Therefore, no needles are used.
“Certain symptoms — fever, chest pain, a new or changing cough, shortness of breath, or unexplained weight loss to name a few — can provide a clue. Sometimes there are no symptoms to detect lung cancer in an early stage. The only way to be sure is to get screened,” said Rona Remstein, director of Oncology Services at Capital Health.
All screenings take place at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, which provides free valet parking and access to amenities all in one soothing environment.
Our Lung CT Screening Program is supported by a team of experienced physicians from our Center for Oncology. All scans are read by a fellowship-trained chest radiologist, and our team of physicians has extensive experience in:
• Medical Oncology
• Pulmonary Medicine
• Radiation Oncology
• Surgical Oncology
• Thoracic Radiology and other specialties.
They collaborate with our nurses, therapists, social workers, nutritionists, rehabilitation staff, pharmacists, genetic counselors, and clinical researchers to provide patients with a network of experts trained in the most complex oncology issues.
Who is eligible? Anyone with a history of smoking without apparent symptoms can get screened. Those at high risk for lung cancer are 55 – 77 year olds with a long history of smoking, including those who still smoke or quit in the past 15 years.
