Buckingham Place provides the highest quality adult day care and home health care services to clients in Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset counties, and the process by which home health care aides are hired is proof positive the organization goes the extra mile.
“We have a very stringent hiring and training process,” explained Director of Buckingham Place Hilary Murray. “We do background checks, call references, and call previous employers, but we also share that information with families so they can reach out, too.”
Two registered nurses (RNs), a social worker, a director of activities, and support staff make up the Adult Day Care program. All home health aides are certified and licensed by the state of New Jersey. When they are hired, they take part in a trial training period where they are monitored and observed before they become a permanent part of the team.
“This translates seamlessly into our home care program,” Murray added. “After the initial meeting with the client and family, our nurse creates a care plan, with the client’s input, noting any particular preferences; then we have the background to make a successful match with our home health aides. We introduce the client and family to their aide (caregiver) before a placement is made to make sure the client is satisfied and is comfortable with the caregiver.”
Home health aides are available for as little as two-hours up to 24-hour, live-in placements. They help not only with personal care and activities of daily living, such as meal preparation and laundry, but also offer transportation to doctor appointments and for errands.
“Our companion program helps family members who needs a few hours out of the house,” Murray said. “Companion-aides are there to ensure the safety and well being of the client with Alzheimer’s or dementia, who may be at risk for wandering, which gives the family great peace of mind.”
Clients who enjoy the Adult Day Center may attend from one to five days each week. Buckingham Place can provide transportation to clients in Mercer County, Middlesex County, and the southeast portion of Essex County.
Murray announced that Director of Care Coordination Marcia McDonald is retiring this year after 13 years of stellar service. She calls Marcia McDonald “a shining star in the Adult Day Center.” Every client and family member knows her and her dedication over the years is truly honorable.
“The good news is that she will stay on part time. She is a wonderful presence for our families and our clients,” Murray said.
