Aging in place with dignity, independence, privacy and choices is the hallmark of Bear Creek Assisted Living. The beautiful campus is located in West Windsor and provides both assisted living and Alzheimer’s care.

Bear Creek offers three levels of care based on a clinical assessment. The ultimate goal, according to Executive Director Chris Slavicek, is to allow residents to be as independent as possible for as long as possible.

“We provide as little or as much care as is needed,” Slavicek explained. “It could be something simple like meds management to 24/7 hospice care. At Bear Creek, our residents don’t need to change apartments; they live out life at home.”

And, it feels like home, reminiscent of a bed and breakfast. It’s warm and inviting inside, and boasts picturesque grounds that feature a pond, outdoor walking paths, gazebos, and an outdoor patio. Bear Creek is nestled in the heart of West Windsor so dining, shopping, and attractions like downtown Princeton are at residents’ fingertips.

“It’s a cruise-ship mentality on land,” Slavicek added. “We have a full-time activity director and staff who mount programs every day geared to meeting all needs: physical, spiritual, emotional, and cognitive. There’s a concierge at the front desk 24/7, restaurant-style dining three meals each day, and so much more.”

Bear Creek also is a one-stop shop for medical services. A primary care physician from the community is on-site three days each week. Residents may also avail themselves of monthly visits from a dentist, podiatrist, and ophthalmologist. There are mobile x-rays and CAT scans, lab services, and physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Plus a nurse is on-site 24/7.

For those who grow to need it, there’s a dementia neighborhood called Rose Lane to work with residents with cognitive impairment. There are two programs segregated by acuity level and overseen by a certified dementia practitioner. The focus is programming and stimulation: residents take part in a structured, routine program that also includes trips.

“What really sets us apart is the longevity of our staff,” Slavicek said. “Our direct care staff has been here since the doors opened more than a decade ago. This community treats you like family, and our staffers believe walls are walls, but it’s what’s inside that makes up a home.”

Bear Creek has cultivated a stellar reputation by word of mouth, and part of that is the organization gives back to the community. It sponsors teams, supports religious organizations, and takes part in community events. Bear Creek: a caring home to age in place, a vibrant program for all residents, first-class services and a good citizen.
