Taneshia Nash Laird, pictured, who resigned as director of the Arts Council of Princeton last year, (U.S. 1, August 22, 2018) has been named CEO of the Newark Performing Arts Corporation, the organization that operates Newark Symphony Hall. She started in November but the organization only recently announced the move.
Laird was only the third executive director of the Arts Council since 1967 and the first one of color. Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka praised Laird’s appointment. “Newark Symphony Hall is a historic location with countless memories for generations of residents,” Baraka said. “Ms. Laird has been a tireless advocate for the arts. I can’t think of a better person to help revive the legacy of this institution and revitalize the Lincoln Park neighborhood.”
