Hamilton Township is celebrating a homecoming at the offices of Arthritis, Rheumatic & Back Disease Associates, fondly known as ARBDA. Dr. Janet Krommes, a well-respected and popular rheumatologist in central New Jersey for over 15 years, has returned to join the Hamilton facility of ARBDA, located at 2123 Klockner Road. Having opened in July of 2015, this location for ARDBA has steadily enlarged its services to the area.
Dr. Krommes brings years of experience and commitment to her practice of Rheumatology. She was named as a Top Doctor by NJ Monthly in 2016 and she was the former Associate Section Chief of Rheumatology at Temple University. She has been in private practice in New Jersey since 2000. She joins Dr. Neha Patel at the Hamilton office. Dr. Patel trained with one of the foremost experts in Lupus, and focuses on Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune disorders in addition to the full spectrum of rheumatic disease.
Dr. Patel says, “We are very pleased to be part of the Hamilton community. Our newest expansion includes an infusion center, providing much-needed convenience to area patients. Many rheumatologic medications are infused —administered intravenously over a period of up to several hours — and patients are often required to travel to a hospital for this service. We are able to provide patients with convenience and flexibility that is not possible in a hospital setting.”
Founded in 1975, ARBDA has grown to become the largest rheumatology practice in New Jersey, and it is one of the largest rheumatology practices nationally. But it is their dedication to community and patients that is their hallmark.
“When you come to visit us, we know you are sick or in pain, and we know that you are unique from every other patient that has ever walked in our door,” says Dr. Patel. “We aim to listen with compassion and provide the very best care for your particular situation. As we age, increased joint pain or discomfort is common. This is where we are the experts.”
“One of the best things about being a rheumatologist is that we treat the entire person,” Dr. Krommes remarks. “We tend to have long-term relationships with our patents, which allows for a much more individualized approach to health care than in other specialties. For us, that is very rewarding.”
Dr. Krommes believes there are real advantages to being part of such a large, single-specialty practice: “One of the best things about our scale is our academic discourse. We can compare notes, discuss the merits of different treatments, and work together to manage complex cases.” “We have a mix of very experienced rheumatologists who have seen almost everything, and younger rheumatologists who bring the newest approaches and techniques to our practice.”
As ARBDA has evolved, it has incorporated the latest diagnostic methods and treatments into its standard of care. It is a leader in musculoskeletal ultrasound, a method of imaging joints and soft tissue to look for injuries, tears, or inflammation. It is one of the few practices in the region to offer this service.
ARBDA helps its patients access the latest pharmaceutical products through participation in clinical trials. For patients who are candidates for new treatments, ARBDA can provide options at the leading edge of rheumatologic medicine.
For ARBDA’s employees, the payoff comes when a patient arrives for a return visit feeling better and fully capable of doing everything that he or she loves, whether it is returning to work, knitting a sweater, or running a 5K. “Until they are affected, a lot of people don’t know that rheumatologic disease can have a bigger impact on quality of life than even cancer or cardiovascular disease,” says Dr. Patel. “When I can help make a patient’s life better … well, that’s why I became a doctor in the first place.”
