Arlee’s Raw Blends, Princeton’s premier provider of organic juices and foods, was born out of a personal passion for health and wellness. Paula Taylor and her brother, Brian Moore, began selling their juice products in farmers’ markets around Trenton in 2014. Now Arlee’s is poised to return to its roots and open a new location in downtown Trenton. “It was really the Trenton customers who moved us along and pushed us into thinking we should become entrepreneurs. We are therefore excited to be part of the revitalization of the city by bringing health and wellness to the downtown. It’s important to us that we bring a store to the community, back to Trenton, where it all started,” notes Paula. Arlee’s Raw Blends, Trenton, will open this month at 25 South Warren Street, right across the street from Starbucks.
A visit to Arlee’s is not just an opportunity to sample and purchase their pleasant-tasting, healthy, and non-gluten & GMO raw and vegan offerings. It is also a fun exploration into health and wellness. Arlee’s only sells real wholesome food. “From the green vegetables, fruits, and root vegetables to ginger, to turmeric, everything is 100 percent organic and vegan. You get nothing powdered or processed here,” Paula explains. Arlee’s customers range from experienced “juicers” to people who know nothing about juicing but want to get healthier, lose weight, or were told to start eating better by their doctors.
“There is no stranger who walks through our doors. We seek to engage with and develop a relationship with everyone” explains Paula. “Discussions may touch on how most diets are overloaded with carbs, fat, gluten, and all kinds of toxins. Or we may discuss that one 16-ounce bottle of Arlee’s cold-pressed juice comes from five to six pounds of fruits and vegetables, and they taste great. That’s all your fruit and green vegetable requirement for the day, plus vitamins, enzymes, nutrients, and antioxidants, are in that one bottle. Or that Arlee’s raw juice blends can be used as a meal replacement or a supplement to a healthy diet.”
Arlee’s fruit and vegetable juices are available at the store in about 40 different flavors, as are “shots” for those who just need an instant boost. “We offer several kinds of healthy shots including ginger, turmeric, wheatgrass, lemon, elderberry, and an immunity booster shot that can help with colds, flus, and allergies,” says Paula. Certain recipes are seasonal, and the team is always creating new blends as well. In addition, the store sells vegan breakfast and lunch items as “grab and go”: overnight oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, vegan pizza, collard wraps, salads, power energy bars, and they make in-house crackers from the pulp of their juices. Their sweets are particularly big sellers: Vegan desserts that are sweetened with dates. Cashew cheesecake, plain or with fruit toppings, is very popular. There are chocolate mousse parfaits, flourless chocolate cakes, chia puddings, and mixed fruit with cashew cream that’s the ultimate healthy dessert and breakfast item. People get scared of vegan food: they don’t realize it is real food and can be delicious!
Arlee’s has become so popular that in addition to the coming Trenton location they will be moving to a bigger location in Princeton in early 2020. And more customers means more people whom Paula and Brian can educate to show the benefits of juicing and vegan dietary options. “This way of eating gives you a newfound energy, helps with your complexion, weight loss and just gives you a natural glow. It’s a healthy way of eating, and there just isn’t a better way to reboot your gut!” Paula says. Remember: You are what you eat.
