About U.S. 1 Newspaper

U.S. 1 Newspaper, the weekly business and entertainment journal, has served the central New Jersey business community since 1984, providing useful information for and about the more than 5,000 businesses in our readership area, as well as insightful coverage of arts and entertainment venues. Our events calendar, available in the paper every week as well as updated daily online, is the area’s most comprehensive events database.

The paper was founded by Richard K. Rein, a successful freelance journalist and former correspondent for Time Magazine, in response to emergence of the Princeton Route 1 corridor as a distinct community that transcended existing municipal borders. U.S. 1 continues to be circulated every Wednesday to businesses, retail outlets, libraries, and community centers, as well as placed in free newspaper boxes in nearly a dozen communities spanning three central New Jersey counties. Almost all of the circulation is concentrated within a 10-mile radius from the corner of Route 1 and Alexander Road.

In 2000 Rein launched a second paper, the bi-weekly West Windsor-Plainsboro News. In 2012 Rein merged his company with Community News Service, owned by Jamie Griswold and Tom Valeri and publisher of monthly community papers in Princeton, Hopewell, Lawrence, Ewing, Trenton, Hamilton, Robbinsville, and Bordentown.

In 2019 Rein sold his interest in the expanded parent company, Community News Service, to pursue his writing interests in the field of urbanism and public placemaking. Griswold and Valeri continue to serve as publishers of U.S. 1 and its sister publications.
