Church Bells

The church bells call
the local sinners to the 11:00 Mass.
If the wind blows Northwards
the few blocks to my house:
I can hear their resolute clang
calling for a visit.
I open the font door
and listen to the truth in its sound.
With closed eyes,
I stand and receive.
For eleven seconds
I’m redeemed, cleansed; pure of soul.
The air is quiet and composed around me.
And the world is good, transparent and decent.
The moment delivered.
I close the door and go about
my purposeless life till next week; when I’ll have another
eleven seconds of faith.
