Lawrenceville School Gets $60M

Henry Woods, a former English teacher at the Lawrenceville School, has left his alma mater $60 million, the largest donation the school has ever received.

Woods, who died in 2005, was the heir to Illinois-based Sahara Coal Company. According to his will, Woods left the money to Lawrenceville, to be delivered after his wife’s death in 2007.

Woods was a 1940 graduate of the Lawrenceville School, who served on the faculty from 1952 to 1986.

The Lawrenceville School, Route 206, Box 6008, Lawrenceville 08648; 609-896-0400; fax, 609-895-2217. Elizabeth A. Duffy, headmaster. Home page: www.lawrenceville.org.
